The Plastics Pipe Institute Inc. (PPI) is the major trade association representing all segments of the plastic pipe industry and is dedicated to promoting the use of plastics as the material of choice for pipe applications.

PPI is managing this website under license from Operations and Technology Development (OTD) consortium of gas utilities in order to facilitate compliance with ASTM F2897 Standard Specification for Tracking and Traceability Encoding System of Natural Gas Distribution Components (Pipe, Tubing, Valves, and Fittings) developed by Hitesh Patadia of TEJ Group, Inc. as part of an overall program sponsored by OTD.

This Component ID registry facilitates the registration of a manufacturer's unique two-character identifier to be used in conjunction with ASTM F2897 and is intended to help gas utilities in their efforts towards implementation of their own Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP), a program that has been mandated by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), U.S. Department of Transportation.

The service is available to ALL gas industry component manufacturers.
